A Walking Guide to the Trees of Old Salem

March 22 @ 2:00 pm 3:00 pm

Take a guided walk through Old Salem and learn to identify native trees while discovering some of their historical uses. Thanks to their extensive root systems, trees play a critical role in maintaining water quality. Join Adam Tran, Northwest Piedmont Master Naturalist Volunteer and Extension Master Gardener Volunteer, for a guided tour of Old Salem’s native trees. He will discuss each tree’s role in the landscape, key identifying features, and both historical and modern uses of the Piedmont’s diverse tree species. The tour will follow the scenic Old Salem grounds and the Salem Creek watershed, highlighting twenty-seven native trees along the way. Please wear comfortable walking shoes. All ages are welcome, though an adult should accompany youth under the age of 16. Some terrain may not be suitable for strollers.
