When It Happens Here: Preparing for Emergencies in Forsyth County

Be prepared, not panicked. Join N.C. Cooperative Extension, Forsyth County Center, Forsyth County Soil and Water Conservation District, and Forsyth County Emergency Management, for a practical emergency preparedness workshop during Forsyth Creek Week. This session will focus on the types of emergencies most likely to impact the Piedmont of North Carolina — including flooding, severe storms, winter weather, and other disruptions — with special attention to water-related risks. Participants will learn what to do before, during, and after an emergency, where to find reliable information in Forsyth County, how to determine whether their home is located in a floodplain, and where to access updates about shelters and community resources. We’ll also cover simple, actionable steps you can take now, including how to assemble an emergency kit and plan for food preparation during power outages. Whether you’re just getting started or looking to strengthen your current plans, this workshop will help you feel more confident and prepared for whatever comes your way.
