SUMMARY:Forsyth Audubon Bird Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join Forsyth Audubon for our Monday Bird Walk at Winston Lake Park guided by Tim Miller.  All skill levels are welcome.  We will meet at the north end of the park by the pier located at Winston Lake Park 1344\, Winston Park Dr\, Winston-Salem.  Late March is the end of “weird duck season” so we’ll scan the water for any lingering waterfowl. It also is the start of spring migration. The habitat at the lake is perfect for the vanguards of that northward movement\, Louisiana Waterthrush\, Common Yellowthroat\, and various swallow species. We’ll patrol the water’s edge in hopes of scrounging up some “first of springs”. We’ll keep the walk short and flat\, but things may get a bit muddy!

When arriving at Long Creek Park\, we’ll meet at the picnic shelter then take a short walk (0.2 miles) down a paved path and arrive at our event location next to the creek. This event is for you! \n  \nAll equipment and bait for basic fishing will be provided by Forsyth Creek Week\, plus free pizza! License requirements will be waived for that location and time\, courtesy of NC Wildlife Resources Commission. Fishing fees usually in effect at Salem Lake will also be covered by Forsyth Creek Week. The Wake Forest University Fishing Club will help fishers bait hooks\, teach how to cast\, and help land and release fish. Fishing off the pier or in a boat only – no bank fishing allowed. Our theme on this outing will focus on grounding and presence\, so we will learn techniques to cultivate more awareness in the present moment\, such as mindful listening\, mindful walking\, and mindful breathing. While listing bird species is not our focus\, we will be observing them closely and learning about local species and ecology as an anchor to the present moment. \nAll ages and experience levels with birding and mindfulness are welcome\, and families are encouraged to join.
