SUMMARY:Mindful Birding at Historic Bethabara Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a peaceful and reflective time at Historic Bethabara Park\, where we will blend birdwatching with mindfulness practices to deepen our connection to nature. Whether you’re an experienced birder or a curious beginner\, this event invites you to slow down\, tune in\, and engage fully with the natural world. \nMindfulness is a practice that involves paying attention to the present moment with compassion and nonjudgement\, and practicing mindfulness in nature is known to decrease stress and increase feelings of interconnection with others. Our theme on this outing will focus on grounding and presence\, so we will learn techniques to cultivate more awareness in the present moment\, such as mindful listening\, mindful walking\, and mindful breathing. While listing bird species is not our focus\, we will be observing them closely and learning about local species and ecology as an anchor to the present moment. \nAll ages and experience levels with birding and mindfulness are welcome\, and families are encouraged to join. You can expect an introduction on mindfulness\, a slow\, guided walk\, time for reflection in nature\, and space to share your experiences with others. \nThe outing is free\, but we do ask that you register to reserve your spot here: https://app.amilia.com/store/en/city-of-winston-salem/api/Activity/Detail?activityId=yege6gp

SUMMARY:Creek Crawl at Bethania's Black Walnut Bottom
DESCRIPTION:NC Sierra Club Foothills Group will host a fun and informative creek crawl along Bethania’s Black Walnut Bottom Trail\, where creeks feed into Muddy Creek. We will be joined by Danica Heflin of PTRC’s Stormwater SMART.We will meet at the picnic tables beside the Bethania visitor center for an overview of the creeks of Wachovia. We will then hike the Black Walnut Bottom Trail and see what makes a healthy creek\, explore the area bordering the creek\, and consider why the Moravians made their second settlement here.\n \nAlong the hike\, we will search a creek for macro-invertebrates whose presence will tell us about the water quality. In water quality\, “buggy is better.” Anyone wishing to join in this activity must have boots or water footwear and expect wet and muddy conditions. Towels and spare socks and shoes are recommended. The trail is 1.4 miles in length and rated easy by the Foothills Group.\nMore details of the area can be found at http://townofbethania.org/trails/black-walnut-bottom-trail/. Register by sending an email to Henry Fansler at henryfansler@windstream.net or 336-473-0283. Note that the Sierra Club requires all outing participants to sign a standard waiver. Participants under 18 must be with a parent or guardian.\nMeet in the parking lot for the Bethania Visitors Center\, 5393 Ham Horton Lane (near the intersection of Bethania Road and Main Street). MAP\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
