Russell\, an Army veteran who once swore an oath to protect and serve his country\, now finds his home\, waters\, and forests under threat. He enlists in the battle to defend his community. Russell joins forces with people along the pipeline route\, including Georgia\, an apple farmer in Virginia; Maury\, a retired schoolteacher in West Virginia; and Crystal and Jason\, Indigenous community leaders in North Carolina. Together\, they form a movement that faces numerous setbacks as they take on the multibillion-dollar corporations behind the pipeline. SUMMARY:A Walking Guide to the Trees of Old Salem
DESCRIPTION:Take a guided walk through Old Salem and learn to identify native trees while discovering some of their historical uses.\n\nThanks to their extensive root systems\, trees play a critical role in maintaining water quality. Join Adam Tran\, Northwest Piedmont Master Naturalist Volunteer and Extension Master Gardener Volunteer\, for a guided tour of Old Salem’s native trees. He will discuss each tree’s role in the landscape\, key identifying features\, and both historical and modern uses of the Piedmont’s diverse tree species. The tour will follow the scenic Old Salem grounds and the Salem Creek watershed\, highlighting twenty-seven native trees along the way.\n\nPlease wear comfortable walking shoes. All ages are welcome\, though an adult should accompany youth under the age of 16. DESCRIPTION:The Pill Collection Drop Box is a program for citizens as a convenient and safe way to dispose of unneeded or unwanted pills from their homes. Proper and safe disposal of pills serves to reduce the possibility of accidental or criminal misuse of these drugs as well as providing a safe alternative to disposing of medications in landfills and/or sewer systems. Keeping medicine out of our landfills and sewers keeps our environment and drinking water safer. \n  \nRestrictions: This program is only for pills. No other form of drugs will be accepted. (No liquids\, gels\, sharps\, syringes or aerosol products.) This program is only for households. Pills from businesses\, health care facilities\, long-term care facilities\, pharmaceutical representatives\, pharmacies\, doctor offices and veterinary clinics will not be accepted. \n  \nLocations \n\nPublic Safety Center (725 N. DESCRIPTION:The Eco Expo is a student-centered learning event hosted by Piedmont Environmental Alliance and the City of Winston-Salem Stormwater Division for Forsyth Creek Week. This event combines a traditional science and art fair with guided\, hands-on learning station experiences. All participants will participate in rotating\, expert-led investigation stations focused on earth science topics. Additionally\, students are invited to create and display their own water-related science and art projects in the exhibition hall. Project guidelines can be reviewed here and will be sent with your confirmation email after registration. \n  \nThis full-day event is one you don’t want to miss\, and registration is needed to ensure space for all attendees and projects. Please complete registration by Sunday\, March 15th to secure your space for all attendees in your group and to submit any student project descriptions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:3RC EnviroStation accepts chemical and other household hazardous waste that should not be disposed of in a landfill. It also accepts electronic waste\, such as computers and televisions\, that are banned from landfills under North Carolina law. Click on the link here to see the types of wastes accepted on the second page. \n  \nThis waste could cause environmental damage or contaminate groundwater if disposed of improperly.  Forsyth County residents may drop off electronic waste and household hazardous waste at the EnviroStation at no charge. Regular trash\, recyclables\, ammunition\, explosives\, radioactive\, medical/infectious waste and e-cigarette waste is not accepted. This is a free service provided to all Forsyth County residents by the City of Winston-Salem Stormwater Division and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Pawpaw trees (Asimina triloba) go hand in hand with our waterways\, thriving in the moist\, rich soil of floodplains\, stream banks\, and river ravines throughout NC. They act as important streambank stabilizers\, with wild fruit-bearing trees often found near water sources. The pawpaw tree produces a sweet fruit too eaten by wildlife and humans alike! Join to learn how to identify these trees along the greenways and in parks across Forsyth County and take some seeds home to plant in your own yards!
