NC Stream Watch is a fun way for families and community groups to enjoy time outside and learn about the amazing system of creeks and streams that connect our parks and neighborhoods. This free, educational water quality program from the NC Department of Environmental Quality includes activities for both school-aged children and adults, with simple projects that can be completed in a few minutes, or when you have a whole afternoon to explore. Your local NC Stream Watch ambassadors from Stormwater SMART will offer both “wet” and “dry” activities, including macroinvertebrate collection, testing nutrient and pH levels, walking the creek for signs of erosion, and mapping the nearest stormwater conveyances. Once you know how to do it, you’ll want to be stream watching everywhere you go! (Be sure to dress appropriately based on how muddy and wet you want to get!)
All children require a responsible adult with them at all times.
